Brokeback Mountain Fans
Hey guys, check this out.

I have one of these and if I didn't and I had $70, I would totally buy it. But then again, it's not a secret that this is just about my favorite fanfic of all time, and it only adds poverty to injury that buying a 'zine on ebay is the only way to get it any more. PLUS, the 'zine features some of the most amazing artwork, inside and out.

Man, I wish I knew what was up with this Jack and Ennis right now.

And people are under the impression I don't read Brokeback fanfic anymore. Eh.

Oh ebay, you are wonderful.

hm...someone trying to make money on fan faction? Doesn´t exactly sound like the best idea the in the world.
If anyone wants to read Somebody New, I´d be happy to send it to them. Why would anyone pay 70 dollars for it is beyond me.

You're right that there's a copy-rite question here, but many people sell out of print and copy-rited material for a profit, so I don't see how this is *really* any different than selling a copy of, say, an Arthur C. Clarke story for $70 and pocketing the $65 difference (it's not as if you plan to pay royalties to Clarke). Not that I would do it though.

But the paper version with the artwork really is, to bbm fandom, a collectible, as well as a fond reminder of a much simpler time, to me.

Yes, but it´s a different situation here. The characters that Arthur C Clarke created are the same as in the original, and has not been altered in any way. And the person selling the book has probably bought it at some point, so Arthur C Clarke has alredy gotten royalties for that copy.

And I think it would be a shame if fan fiction would come to be about money all of a sudden. This sort of thing also draws unwanted attention to fan fiction and the copyright issue. There is also a risk that AP´s lawyers sees it. I don´t think the author needs any more attention since she didn´t finish the sequel because she was treathened with a lawsuit in the first place.

The original art work though is another matter. Looks fab and I hope whoever created it makes some money off of it.

Jenna is aware of the ebay sale; according to her the person selling the 'zine is a fan who has unexpected medical bills, and she hopes the seller gets a good price.

Which is why I posted it here, hoping for the same thing :)

People in other fandoms sell used fanfiction collections to other fans all the time -- I was going to say 'usually not so publically', but then remember that I HAVE seen a few 'classic' fandom collections for sale via eBay...
And yes, there have been 'Cease & Desist' orders in other media fandoms. And guess what? the fandoms/fanzines continue, just a little more quietly.

Yeah, I have also seen 'zines for sale on ebay. Doujinshi is perpetually on sale on ebay.

yes it's expensive but I wanted to buy a book for myself back in the days when it was cancelled and I was soooo disappointed.
I've printed it out but it's just not the same.
But they're only shipping to the US if I get this correctly- *sob*

Ick, that sucks! You might be able to find someone in the US to buy it for you and ship it to you?

I agree Jess 100%! S.N. is one of my all time favorite BBM fan fics and to have it printed and bound with that beautiful art work is quite the gift. I have my own copy so don't need to buy this one but recommend it highly to any BBM fan/fan fic reader!

P.S. I'm missing YOUR Jack(s) and Ennis(s) too :(

I was lucky enough to have picked up this 'zine when it was still a bargain, so I'm not in the market, but it's worth it for fans who have the money.
